Welcome to the Diabetes UK West Dorset Support Group

Diabetes UK, the charity for people with diabetes, has a network of over 350 voluntary groups throughout the UK. The West Dorset Support Group is one of these groups and supports people in the West Dorset district and covers the Dorchester, Weymouth, Bridport and Blandford areas.

The group aims to provide support, help, companionship, education and information for people living with diabetes.  We place great emphasis on raising public awareness throughout the West Dorset area.  This includes having diabetes awareness days in local surgeries, a stand at the Dorset Agricultural Show, visits to the Dorchester Diabetes Centre and the Dorset County Hospital and an awareness stand at the Dorchester branch of Tesco Stores Ltd.

We welcome everyone affected by diabetes, whether newly diagnosed or longer term, along with carers, friends etc. There is always the opportunity to talk to other members of the group, ask questions and share experiences.

South West Regional Office of Diabetes UK

Diabetes UK's South West regional office based at Taunton works at a local level.  The area covered by the office includes Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Wiltshire, Bristol and Bath, Gloucestershire and Dorset.  The office is staffed by the Regional Manager (Graham Cooper), Regional Fundraising Manager (Sarah Cummings), Voluntary Development Officer and Zoë Steer and Emily Upsher providing administrative support.

The regional office responds to local needs, working to influence the local NHS to improve local services, raising awareness across the region, fundraising, organising local events (educational, fundraising and social), and giving advice and support to groups and volunteers.
